Seniors Help Carry Crusaders Into Commonwealth Championships

Bauer And Gerber Honored Saturday

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 27, 2013) - Seniors Nate Bauer (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills Regional) and Will Gerber (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) were honored on senior day and both recorded pivotal singles wins as Alvernia University (10-8, 4-2) overcame an early deficit to defeat Lebanon Valley College (7-10, 3-3) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference men's tennis action at Governor Mifflin Courts.

The Crusaders wrap up the third seed in the Commonwealth Championships and will travel to #2 Messiah for a semifinal on Tuesday.  Lebanon Valley is the fourth seed and will travel to top-seeded Elizabethtown on Tuesday.

Alvernia fell behind 2-1 after doubles play on Saturday with Bauer and Dan Minnich (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) earning the only point for the hosts.  Bauer then recovered from a one-set deficit at No. 1 singles for a much-needed point while Minnich and Gerber won in straight sets.  Ben Daubenspeck (Reading, Pa./Reading) claimed the final point for the Crusaders taking a straight set win at No. 6 singles.
