Reading, Pa. (Apr. 14, 2015) - Alvernia University and Albright College found themselves locked in a 4-4 tie when darkness set in with the No. 6 singles match going to a third set tiebreaker. The match transfered from Albright to Alvernia and Crusaders sophomore Anthony Gaetani took the tiebreaker in the deciding match under the lights at Angelica Park for a 5-4 win.
Gaetani and
Jacob Conapitski put the Crusaders on the board with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. The Lions took an 8-5 decision at No. 2 doubles and with Alvernia No. 1
Dan Minnich trying to gut it out while battling illness, Albright was able to earn a 9-8 (7-2) win at No. 1 doubles.
Minnich tried to make a go of it at No. 1 singles, but had to retire giving the Lions the first singles point. Albright also got a win at No. 3 from Evan Cuff. Conapitski and
Kyle Clark both won in straight sets at No. 4 and 5, and
Aaron Yuros needed a 7-5 win in the third set to level the match at four points each.
Gaetani won the opening set in his match, 6-3, but Albright's Terrence Goode took the second set 4-6. The third set got as far went 6-6 before the coaches agreed to take a crosstown trip to finish the final match under the lights at Alvernia.
The Crusaders head to Lebanon Valley College for a rescheduled match on Thursday.
