Reading, Pa. (May 8, 2017) - Alvernia University recognized its senior student-athletes at the annual Awards Dinner hosted Monday evening by Reading Country Club.
Outstanding Senior Athletes
Cameron Coons (Baseball) – A 3-time All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association and the 2016 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year. Ranks fifth in career doubles (41), 12
th in RBIs (122), and 13
th in batting average (.388).

Margaret Wentzel (Field Hockey) – A 3-time All-American, Wentzel graduates as the career leader in points (226) and assists (42) at Alvernia, and second in career goals (92). She holds the record for goals in a game (5) and goals in a season (30). Wentzel is a 2-time MAC Commonwealth Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Year and the 2015 ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year.

Senior Scholar Athletes
The Scholar Athlete Award is an annual award given to the male and female senior scholar-athlete. It's purpose is to encourage, recognize, and reward outstanding academic achievement of a 4-year varsity sport letter winner who earned at least 100 credits from Alvernia University.

Tyler Arnold (Men's Soccer) – An Athletic Training major who has also earned All-MAC Commonwealth, MAC Academic Honor Roll, and a member of the MAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Erica Dunkelberger (Women's Soccer) – Completed her athletic eligibility during her fourth year of the 5-year Occupational Therapy Program. An All-MAC Commonwealth honoree and member of the MAC Academic Honor Roll.

Athletic Director's Award
The Athletic Director's Award is presented annually to a male and female student-athlete who embodies the mission of the institution through their actions on and off the field or court of play. It is awarded to those who embrace the core values of Alvernia: service, humility, peacemaking, contemplation, and collegiality, and who are excelled in their sport, in the classroom, and in the community.

J.J. Clinchoc (Track and Field) – The 2017 Indoor Track MAC Scholar Athlete, and runner up at the 2017 MAC Outdoor Decathlon. The career record holder indoors in the 500m, the 4x400m relay, the 4x800m relay, and the heptathlon. The career record holder outdoors in the 4x400m relay and the decathlon. Clinchoc is a member of Delta Epsilon Sigma, Pi Theta Epsilon, is a Resident Assistant, and an active contributor to the St. Francis Day of Service.

Jenna Harper (Women's Lacrosse) – Harper is a four-year letter winner in women's lacrosse and will graduate with a Masters in Occupational Therapy. She ranks 14
th in her career in games played (65) and has totaled 54 ground balls, six goals, and 23 caused turnovers. She is an extremely active contributor to the success of the institution serving on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Student Government Executive Board, and the Campus Activities Board. She participated in the IGNITE Leadership program, the Intramural Activities Board, was a tour guide and an Orientation Leader.

The Athletics Excellence Award is given annually to up to five senior student-athletes who have excelled in athletics, earning conference, regional, and/or national recognition for their accomplishments.

Marquis Marshall (Men's Basketball) – Scored 909 career points at Alvernia, and 967 for his career at Towson, East Stroudsburg, and Alvernia. Was a 2-time All-MAC Commonwealth First Team award winner and the 2017 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year. Was a d3hoops.com Preseason All-American and earned All-ECAC South First Team honors and d3hoops.com First Team All-Region as a senior.

Rebecca Brosious (Field Hockey) – The 2016 MAC Commonwealth Defensive Player of the Year and All-ECAC Mid-Atlantic Region Second Team member. Brosious is fourth in career goals against average (1.83) at Alvernia, sixth in shutouts (4), and sixth in saves (255) with a 35-10 career record. In the 2015 ECAC Championship run, Brosious allowed two goals in 220 minutes and recorded a 4-0 shutout of Stevenson in the ECAC Final.

Bailey Stover (Women's Soccer & Women's Lacrosse) – A career record holder in two sports. Stover holds the assists record in women's soccer (14) and the caused turnover record in women's lacrosse (102). Stover is a 3-time All-MAC Commonwealth defender in women's lacrosse.

Brianna DePriest (Softball) – The 2016 MAC Commonwealth Softball Player of the Year. DePriest is a 3-time All-MAC Commonwealth honoree. For her career, she ranks in the top 5 in slugging (.656), batting average (.402), on-base percentage (.469), doubles (31), and home runs (13).

Heather Wanner (Track & Field) – Wanner qualified for the 60m dash at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships and finished 10
th breaking her own school record in that race for the sixth time that season. That winter she was named the MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 60m and 200m races at the MAC Championships.

The Class of 2017 graduates three student-athletes, with one representative from the men's team and two from the women's teams. A three-time MAC Honor Roll recipient, Tom Bialek collected his highest finish in his senior campaign, taking 8th at the Alvernia Invitational. Leskneski graduates with four top-20 finishes to her name, including 10th at the Alvernia Invitational in 2015, while Stevko rounds out her career taking first place in the Alvernia Invite, second in the Messiah Invitational, and 9th at the MAC Championships in 2014, leading her to become the first woman in cross country history to receive First Team All-MAC.

The Class of 2017 led the field hockey team to an overall record of 62-26 over the past four years. The team made the Commonwealth tournament in 2014 and 2016, reaching the championship game on both occasions. They qualified for the ECAC tournament all four years and won the ECAC title in 2013 and 2015. In 2016, the Crusaders held a national ranking through most of the season, reaching the number 15 spot after having the best start in program history at 15-0 and 4-0 in conference. Margaret Wenztel graduates as one of the most decorated player in Alvernia history, earning a total of 22 postseason honors, including being a 3-time Synapse Sports All-American, 2-time NFHCA All-American, and 2-time Academic All-MAC selection.Â

The Men's Soccer class of 2017 led the team to an overall record of 34-35-14. In their four year stint, this class made three MAC tournament appearances and two ECAC appearances. The seniors gathered an ECAC title in 2015 by way of penalty kicks, with Reinoehl putting away the first Crusaders goal of the shootout. Arnold was named All-MAC Commonwealth in his senior season, while four of the five appeared on the Fall MAC Honor Roll.

The Women's Soccer Class of 2017 finished with a 28-47-3 overall record. In 2013, they earned a postseason selection, qualifying for the ECAC South Region Championships. In 2014, Bailey Stover made Alvernia soccer history for the first time as she scored the Crusaders first point historically against regional-power house Messiah. Stover made history again this past season, becoming the all-time assists leader with 14. Erica Dunkelberger was named All-Commonwealth Honorable Mention in her sophomore season, and this class has made multiple appearances on the Fall MAC Honor Roll over the past four years.

Over the past four years, the Crusaders have collected a 68-40 record with four MAC Commonwealth tournament appearances. Alvernia won the MAC in 2014 and 2015, advancing to the NCAA regional tournament. In the past two seasons, this senior class has led Alvernia to a 20-12 conference record, earning the #4-seed in the conference tournament both years. Marshall had a stellar senior campaign, being named MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year while also collecting ECAC and D3hoops post-season honors.

The Ice Hockey Class of 2017 led the program to an overall record of 48-51-4 with three DVCHC tournament appearances and one ACHA Atlantic Regional Tournament. In their freshmen campaign, the seniors capped off a 16 win season with a first round victory over Stockton College in the ACHA tournament. As sophomores, the Crusaders captured a trio of wins at the Empire Classic, an invite only tournament for the top four teams in the DVCHC, for the first time since 2011.

Campione and McCarthy both graduate at 100 goal scorers, while Stover sits as the all-time force turnover leader at 103.

The Men's Lacrosse Class of 2017 boasts the largest graduating class with 10 seniors. In four years, they have led the Crusaders to an overall record of 11-55. Senior Ben Manning graduates sitting in the top 5 in the Alvernia record books in four categories, including first in games played, second in goals with 77, third in points, and fifth in assists. Matt Saxon sits tied with Manning in games played with 65, and is third all-time in ground balls with 195, while Kyle Farrell records one less game, placing him second on the list.Â

In their freshman season, they reached the championship game of the MAC tournament, and won the ECAC South. Brianna DePriest was named the 2015 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, and she and Amanda Turner are both two-time first team All-Conference selections. Taylor Malinish joins DePriest and Turner as the trio all hold places in the All-Time Records top-10.

The Class of 2017 to date has led the baseball program to an overall 117-55-2 record with a 63-21 MAC Commonwealth record. This class holds four MAC Commonwealth tournament appearances, reaching the championship game in 2014 and 2017, and capturing the title in 2015. In the 2015 season, the Crusaders went onto the NCAA tournament, where they opened competition with back-to-back wins. This group features three post-season award winners, including Cameron Coons, a three-time All-Conference honoree and the 2016 Player of the Year. Tony Baglivo received back-to-back All-conference selections starting in 2016, and Iacobellis received the award in the same year.

The Class of 2017 posted a four-year record of 29-34, qualifying for the MAC Commonwealth Team Championships in 2014 and 2015. In his freshman campaign, MacCloskey reached the semifinals in the MAC Individual Championships at No.6 singles. Gaetani has reached the quarterfinals four times in three years, making a trio of appearances in the doubles bracket. Hangen is a two-time First Team All-Commonwealth selection and Academic All-MAC honoree.

The 2017 seniors for Women's Tennis hold a four year team record of 43-27 and a conference record of 18-8. The seniors have appeared in three MAC Commonwealth team tournaments, winning the championships with a 5-1 victory over top-seeded Lebanon Valley in 2015 to advance to NCAAs for the first time in program history. That year, the team also set the record for most wins in a season, gathering a 14-4 overall record. Alyssa Boyd graduates a four-time All-Conference selection with 31 individual wins in singles matchups, receiving first team accolades this past season.

The Class of 2017 graduates five seniors from the men's team and three from the women's. Among the accomplishments of this senior class, Jeremiah Clinchoc has reached the podium three times in the Outdoor MAC Championships in the decathlon, collecting bronze twice and earning silver this past weekend. Seth Bellott and Zach Seaman have been strong competitors in field events, with Bellott consistently placing in the top-8 in pole vault and Seaman holding the program record for javelin distance at 51.78m, while Lockhart and Bialek represent the Crusaders in sprints and distance. On the women's side, Wanner has placed herself in the Alveria record books, being named the Women's Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year in 2015 after winning gold in the 60m and 200m at the MAC Championships, and becoming just the second female in Alvernia Indoor program history to compete in NCAA Nationals. Lesneski holds the program record in the 1000m, which she set during the indoor season this year at Bucknell, and Stevko joins Lesneski as a member of the Distance Medley Relay team that set the Alvernia school record in 2015.Â

Evan Bulcavage becomes the first senior to graduate from the men's volleyball program. In its augural season, men's volleyball compiled a 10-20 record. Bulcavage averaged 2.8 digs per set on the season, including picking up a dig in Alvernia's first ever conference win over Cairn University. Bulcavage was an integral part of the building of the program, and served as a leader for the Crusaders both on and off the court.

They have been an integral part of setting the bar high for the team when it comes to community service, and have helped with hosting the first ever Overnight Summer Youth Camp, the third annual Alvernia Crusaders Cheer Classic, and assisting with the Laney Brown Fashionista 5k. On campus, in addition to being this year's senior scholar, Morgan Kurtz is an orientation weekend leader and a member of the student occupational therapy association, delta epsilon sigma, and pi theta epsilon. Alyssa has had a great career as a 2-sport athlete as well. They will be greatly missed by myself and the cheer program."

"It has been an honor to coach Mackenzie Lynch and Chiara Marone. Mackenzie has been a dynamic athlete on and off the court. She has provided leadership to the team for the last four years, and been captain for the last three. As the team has evolved, Mackenzie has been an intricate part of that process. She has been involved in our community service, a mentor to local students, an ambassador for campus, and maintained a high GPA throughout each season. Chiara has been an exemplary student and athlete. Chiara has been a team member for three years, and provided a positive outlook to our team. Chiara has been a dynamic member of the campus, from her role in theater and extracurricular activities, to her lighting up the court with her voice prior to basketball games. They will be greatly missed, and we wish them all the best in their future endeavors."
