Reading, Pa (Sept. 24, 2017) - Alvernia University (1-1) took a 3-0 lead after doubles play, and went undefeated in singles play against Misericordia University(0-3) to grab its first win of the season Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's tennis action at Alvernia.
The Golden Wolves built a 3-0 lead after sweeping their double matches, and
Brad Viggiano started the singles competition with a 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 5 singles. The win is Viggiano first career win.
Also joining Viggiano with their first career wins were
Mitchell Sterkenburg, who won No. 4 singles in straight sets, and
Justin Gibbs, who earned a win at No. 2 doubles with partner
Todd Unger.
Michael Brophy earned his second and third wins of the season, taking No. 1 singles competition 8-3 with partner
Jimmy Souder, and No. 1 singles competition in straight sets.
Jimmy Souder won the final match of the day, taking a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles.
Alvernia returns to the courts on Saturday when the travel to Susquehanna University to take on the River Hawks.
