Seifert Named Assistant Men's Volleyball Coach

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 18, 2019) - Men's Volleyball Head Coach Jon Keller announced on Tuesday the hiring of Matthew Seifert as assistant coach of the men's volleyball team.

Seifert, a Reading native, graduated from Exeter Township High School in 2011. After high school, Seifert played collegiately at Penn State University from 2011-2016. At Penn State, Seifert was a four-year starter, and a two-time captain. In 2016, Seifert earned First Team All-EIVA honors.

In 2017, following his collegiate career, Seifert played overseas with the Ethnikos Piraeus of Athens, Greece in the Greek Hellenic Volleyleague. Seifert finished the 2017 season as the fifth-best middle blocker in the league, and took home league MVP honors in week 17. In 2018, Seifert spent the season in Bühl, Germany with the Volleyball Bisons Bühl of the 1st Bundesliga. Seifert finished the season in the top 12 in total blocks, and blocks per set. Seifert also previously coached for the Exeter Boy's Volleyball team in 2017.

"I am super excited to have Matt on my coaching staff," said Keller. "The experiences that he brings to the table for the program are second to none. Being a team captain at Penn State, and playing pro in Europe for two years, Matt is going to be able to offer a lot of different points of view on how we can continue to grow the men's volleyball program here at Alvernia."

"The fact that him and I are both Exeter grads, makes it that much more sweet," added Keller. "We come from the same discipline and background, so adding him to the staff will be a seamless addition to the progress that this program will be making in the coming years."

Seifert will begin working with the program immediately. The 2020 men's volleyball season gets underway on January 18th at the Marymount Tri-Match.
