Alvernia Places Third At Middle Atlantic Invitational Debut

Reading, Pa. (Nov. 22, 2021) - Alvernia University Esports made its debut in the Middle Atlantic Invitational over the weekend at its Esports facility in CollegeTowne, and the Golden Wolves took home third place in its first appearance in the invitational. 

The Golden Wolves defeated Messiah University 2-1, Arcadia 2-1, and Albright 2-0, but fell to Lebanon Valley 1-2 in League of Legends to place 3rd in the Middle Atlantic Invitational. Rocket League placed 5th place with 0-3 losses to Lebanon Valley and Widener, and a 3-0 win versus Albright. Rocket League The Golden Wolves entered the Middle Atlantic Invitational as the #5 seed in Rocket League. Colin RendonEric Drebushenko, and Tres Bonner started every game for the Golden Wolves on Saturday. Alvernia began the tournament with an 0-3 loss to #2 Lebanon Valley College. The Golden Wolves rebounded with a 3-0 win versus #7 Albright College. In the decider match, #4 Widener University came away with the 3-0 win. Alvernia Rocket League placed 5th in their Middle Atlantic Invitational debut. League of Legends The #2 Golden Wolves League of Legends team began the day with a closely contested 2-1 win versus #5 Messiah University. Messiah began the series taking the first game, but Alvernia bounced back taking the second. The Golden Wolves were able to close out game three with a dominant performance from Cat Daniels in the top lane. Alvernia continued to another close 2-1 win versus #4 Arcadia University in the second series of the day. Alvernia took a convincing first game with a clean early game. Alvernia took an early lead in game two, but Arcadia was able out scale Alvernia's and take the win during the late game. Early game coordination from the middle-jungle duo of Hao Ha and Hunter Heinly lead Alvernia to a clean game three win. The Golden Wolves closed out the group stage with a 2-0 win versus #7 Albright College. Ty Robinson was the story of this series surprising the Lions with his signature Singed middle. Alvernia ended day one 3-0 and first place in their group. Alvernia began the semifinals with a loss in game one to #3 Lebanon Valley College. Consistent gameplay from the bot lane duo of Claire Huynh and Christopher Keyes secured the Golden Wolves the win in game two. Alvernia took an early lead in game three, but a one-sided late game skirmish turned the tide for the Flying Dutchman and Lebanon Valley were able to win game three and the series. Alvernia League of Legends placed 3rd in their Middle Atlantic Invitational debut.
