Golden Wolves League of Legends and Valorant Take Appalachian Esports Championship Titles

King of Prussia, Pa (April 25, 2023) - Alvernia University claimed Appalachian Esports Championship titles in Valorant and League of Legends on Saturday at the Belong Arena in King of Prussia. 

Teams from ten athletic programs across the Middle Atlantic Conference competed in a year-long online season in four esports titles; Rocket League, League of Legends, Valorant, and Overwatch.

This season culminated in the Appalachian Esports Championship at Belong Arena (King of Prussia, PA) featuring the top four teams in each title.The Golden Wolves were the only program to qualify teams in all four titles. 

Golden Wolves Rocket League (#4) started the day with a 4-3 win versus Lebanon Valley (#1) earning their place in the Appalachian Rocket League finals. They fell to Arcadia (#2) 0-4, to finish in second place. 

Golden Wolves Overwatch (#4) were halted by Lebanon Valley (#1) 0-3 in the semifinals. They placed in a tie for 3rd with Messiah University (#3).

Golden Wolves League of Legends (#1) then took the stage with a clean 2-0 win versus Widener (#4). Roams around the map by Nickolas Wibowo and Atticus Wickert lead Alvernia to a convincing 2-0 win versus DeSales (#2) in the Appalachian League of Legends finals.

Golden Wolves Valorant began the day with a 2-0 win versus Stevenson (#4) securing a spot in the Appalachian Valorant finals where they would face off versus Lebanon Valley (#2). Alvernia took Split, the first map of the series, 13-4. Lebanon Valley bounced back making an early surge on Pearl leading 3-4 after seven rounds. Repeated clutch rounds by Tyler Johnson proved too much for the Dutchmen as the Golden Wolves closed out the map 13-5 and series 2-0 earning an Appalachian Valorant title.

The Appalachian Esports Championships wrapped up Alvernia's 2022-2023 campaign which saw the Golden Wolves finish 107-55 across all events in their second year as a program.
