Reading, Pa. (Apr. 11, 2022)- Alvernia University's League of Legends team paced the Esports team, securing a first-place finish at the MAC Spring Invitational Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Wolves defeated Albright 2-0, Widener 2-0, and Albright 2-0 in Grand Finals to take home the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational League of Legends Championship this weekend.
Rocket League placed 3rd with a 2-3 loss to Eastern, 3-0 win versus Albright, 3-2 win versus Eastern, and 2-3 loss to Lebanon Valley.
Overwatch placed 5th with 0-3 losses to Arcadia and Widener.
Overwatch
Alvernia University entered the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational as the #6 seed in Overwatch. They began the day with an 0-3 loss to #3 Arcadia. Alvernia's match was highlighted by a clean Dragonstrike-Blizzard combo from
Hussain Altamimi and
Adriell Mercado eliminating the entire Arcadia backline. The Golden Wolves continued on to play #4 Widener in the lower bracket. Alvernia University Overwatch fell to Widener 0-3 to place 5th in the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational.
Rocket League
The Golden Wolves entered the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational as the #4 seed in Rocket League.

Alvernia began the tournament with a 2-3 loss to #5 Eastern University. The Golden Wolves rebounded with a 3-0 win versus #6 Albright College. Alvernia rematched #4 Eastern University in the lower bracket. With 5 seconds left in a tied game five,
Braedan Minnich scored a wall shot to win the series 3-2 and continue on to Day 2. Golden Wolves Rocket League fell to Lebanon Valley 2-3 in the lower bracket finals to place 3rd in the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational.
League of Legends
The #2 Golden Wolves League of Legends team began the day with a commanding 2-0 win versus #3 Albright. Alvernia continued to another decisive 2-0 win versus #1 Widener earning a spot in the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational Grand Finals. Day 1 was highlighted by dominant play by
Matthew Wolf; going 10-2 on Fizz, 10-0 on Kaisa, 10-2 on Ahri, and 16-5 on Le Blanc.
Day 2 kicked off with Albright taking a 2-1 win versus Widener in the lower bracket finals. This set up an Alvernia Albright rematch to crown a Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational League of Legends Champion.
Alvernia took a quick victory in the first game thanks to dominant play in the bottom lane from
Matthew Wolf on Twitch and
Nickolas Mudjialim on Blitzcrank. Effective roams from
Atticus Wickert on Talon lead the Golden Wolves to a clean win in Game 2.
With a 2-0 win versus Albright College, Alvernia University became the Middle Atlantic Spring Invitational League of Legends Champions.
