Men's Tennis Outlasts Juniata

BOX SCORE Huntingdon, Pa. (September 12, 2021) - Alvernia University Men's Tennis (1-0) outlasted Juniata (0-1) in a 5-4 win to open up its 2021-22 campaign on Sunday afternoon at Juniata.

Alvernia took an early 2-1 lead following doubles play.

The duo of Michael Brophy and Kevin Angeles took an 8-2 win at #1 doubles, and the combo of Jayden Lewis and Derrick Boltz picked up a second point for Alvernia with an 8-4 win at #3 doubles. Juniata would get its only point with an 8-4 win over Lucas Berger and Thomas Figurelli at #2 doubles.

Alvernia picked up two early wins at singles with Lewis winning #4 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Figurelli taking #5 singles 6-1, 6-0. Brophy and Derrick Boltz would fall in their singles matches, but Alvernia would still hold a 4-3 advantage.

The Eagles would come away with a win at #3 singles to tie it at 4-4. First year Lucas Berger would take the deciding match with a come from behind 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 win at #2 singles to give Alvernia the 5-4 win.

Every Golden Wolf would contribute a point to the 5-4 today.

Alvernia continues it fall season on Saturday and Sunday the MAC Individual Championship.
