Golden Wolves Fall Short to Mustangs, 4-3

Stevenson, Md. (Nov. 11, 2022) - Stevenson University (2-3, 1-2) used a three-goal first period to power itself to a 4-3 win over Alvernia University (3-1-1, 2-1) on Friday night in UCHC Men's Ice Hockey action at Stevenson.

The Mustangs opened up the scoring with a power-play goal in the 6th minute from Austin Master. 11 minutes later, Master scored his second of the evening, and second power-play goal, to give Stevenson a 2-0 lead.

Alvernia got one back just 40 seconds later when Brendan McBride found Logan vande Meerakker to make it a 2-1 game.

The one-goal deficit for Alvernia did not last long as Stevenson extended its lead back to two one minute later with a goal by Aidan Graham. That goal marked the end of the high-scoring first period as the Mustangs took the 3-1 lead into the second frame.

Stevenson was the first to light the lamp in the second period as Eric Olson tacked onto Stevenson's lead with a goal six minutes into the period to make it a 4-1 game.

The Golden Wolves battled back, cutting Stevenson's lead in half three minutes later with an unassisted goal by Gabriel Malek. Just under three minutes later, Alvernia got within one on a goal by Mark Tosti from Andrew Deschenes.

Alvernia ended the period on a penalty kill as the Mustangs held onto a one goal lead, 4-3, going into the final 20 minutes.

Alvernia had two power play opportunities and six shots on goal in the third period, but were unable to even things up as Stevenson handed Alvernia its first loss of the season.

Brandon Daigle got the start in net for Alvernia and made 33 saves in the loss.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow as the Golden Wolves host the Mustangs.
