Rye, NY (Dec. 2, 2022) - A third period comeback for Alvernia University (4-4-1, 3-4) fell just short as Manhattanville College (5-4, 5-2) defeated Alvernia 5-3 on Friday night in UCHC Men's Ice Hockey action at Manhattanville.

The Valiants jumped out a 3-0 lead after the first period and made it a 4-0 game after two periods.

The Golden Wolves started to work their way back with Logan Vande Meerakker scoring a power play goal just under nine minutes into the third period, putting the Golden Wolves on the board.

Just under a minute later, Alvernia cut Manhattanville's lead in half as Kyle Patton found the back of the net off the assists of Jason Finan and Vande Meerakker.

Alvernia then got within one goal, 4-3, on a power play goal by Brendan McBride with just over seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Alvernia had two looks on net, but were unable to convert to tie it up. The Golden Wolves then went to the empty net with just over two minutes remaining, but, 19 seconds later, the Valiants found the empty net to put the game out of reach for Alvernia, 5-3.

Vande Meerakker and McBride each finished with one goal and one assist for Alvernia. Patton finished with one goal and was 19-for-27 on the faceoff.

Brandon Daigle finished with 20 saves in net for Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are back in action tomorrow to close out the weekend series with Manhattanville at 3:00 PM.
