Purchase, N.Y. (Dec 3, 2022) - Alvernia University (5-4-1, 4-4-0) scored three goals in the first and third periods en route to an 8-4 victory over Manhattanville College (5-5-0, 5-3-0) in UCHC men's ice hockey action Saturday afternoon at Manhattanville. 

Manhattanville opened up the scoring in the first four minutes of the first period when Noah Bradley found the back of the net to give the Valiants a 1-0 lead early in the game. 

The Golden Wolves tied the game up in the ninth minute when Lucas Ochitwa scored an unassisted goal to make it a 1-1 game heading into the last ten minutes of the first period. 

The Golden Wolves and the Valiants traded shots back and forth before Manhattanville broke the tie and went up 2-1 in the 14th minute when Connor Boyce scored a power play goal to give the Valiants a one goal advantage. 

Alvernia tied it up again just over 15 minutes into the first period when Jordan Gagnon found Gabriel Malek who fired his shot into the back of the net to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the final five minutes of the period. 

The Golden Wolves tallied another just 30 seconds later when Peter Falivena assisted Isaac Chapman to put Alvernia up 3-2 heading into the first intermission. 

Alvernia extended its lead to two just under five minutes into the second period when Lucas Kirk found the back of the net thanks to assists from Hunter Alden and Brendan McBride to make it 4-2 Alvernia. 

Under a minute later Chapman tallied his second goal of the day after an assist from Andrew Bechard to give the Golden Wolves a 5-2 lead with 15 minutes left in the second period. 

Manhattanville pulled one back in the 13th minute of the second period after Dylan Pollak found Boyce who tallied his second goal of the day to make it a 5-3 game in favor of the Golden Wolves. 

Alvernia extended its lead to 6-3 in the 12th minute of the third period when Max Cole fired a shot into the back of the net after a pass from Kirk to give the Golden Wolves a three goal lead. 

Falivena made it 7-3 for Alvernia after Chapman assisted him to give the Golden Wolves a four goal lead heading into the final six minutes of the third period. 

Manhattanville pulled one back in the final five minutes of the game when Raymond Speerbrecker and Artem Mateichenko found Mitchell Watson who made it a 7-4 game late in the game. 

The Golden Wolves tallied one more goal with just over a minute remaining when Bechard fired a shot that found the back of the net to secure an 8-4 victory over Manhattanville and even the weekend series. 

Collin Cain is credited with the win and tallied 27 saves in net for the Golden Wolves. 

The Golden Wolves were led by Chapman who scored twice and added an assist. Kirk, Bechard and Falievena all tallied a goal and an assist and Kyle Patton led Alvernia with 15 face off wins. 

The Golden Wolves are back in action on December 10th when they travel to Wilkes to take on the Colonels at 5:00 PM.
