Ft. Myers, Fl. (March 8, 2023) - Alvernia University's (4-5) spring break trip came to a close with a 7-5 loss to Rhode Island College (4-4) on Wednesday morning in Ft. Myers, Florida.

The Golden Wolves led 3-1 through five and a half innings, but the Anchormen posted a two-run bottom of the sixth to even it up at 3-3. Rhode Island then put up four in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead on Alvernia. The Golden Wolves scored two in the top of the ninth, but came up short as the Anchormen took the 7-5 win.

After a scoreless first three innings, Alvernia broke through with Jason Kelly driving in Zachary Roga on an RBI single. Alvernia then picked up two more on a two-run single by Ryan Byard to drive in Kelly and Mike Ramundo.

Rhode Island got one back in its half of the fourth inning on an RBI single, and tied it up at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single and sacrifice hit.

Both teams retired the side in the seventh inning. Alvernia had a runner on third in the top of the eighth, but hit into a double play to end the top of the eighth. The Anchormen then scored four runs on four hits in the bottom of the eighth to take a 7-3 lead.

Alvernia threatened in the top of the ninth, with two runs scoring on a two-out triple by Thomas Faggioni. But, Rhode Island forced a flyout on the next at-bat to end the threat and take the 7-5 win.
