Alvernia Falls to Arcadia, 5-4

Colmar, Pa (January 20, 2024) - Two third period goals powered Arcadia University (6-9-2, 2-8-2) to a 5-4 victory over Alvernia University (10-6-1, 8-5-0) in a UCHC men's ice hockey matchup Saturday night at Arcadia. 

The Golden Wolves tied the game at four in the third period but the Knights found a winner in the final six minutes of the game to secure the victory. 

How it Happened
  • Alvernia struck first when Max Cole assisted Riley Egan with nine minutes to go in the first period to give the Golden Wolves an early 1-0 lead. 
  • The Knights leveled the score in the final two minutes of the first period when Donnie Feldman found the back of the net to send it into the first intermission tied at one. 
  • Gabriel Malek gave the Golden Wolves the lead again in the second period when he scored an unassisted, short handed goal to make it 2-1 Alvernia with 13 minutes left in the period. 
  • Arcadia found another equalizer in the final three minutes of the period when Brendan Dicker and Bryce Battaglia assisted Mike Kocsis to make it a 2-2 game. 
  • Alvernia responded just a minute later when Andrew Deschenes assisted Isaac Chapman to give the Golden Wolves a 3-2 advantage but the Knights tallied the fourth goal of the period when Kocsis netted his second to knot the game at three after two periods of play. 
  • The Knights regained the lead after seven minutes when Feldman scored his second of the night to make it a 4-3 game in favor of Arcadia. 
  • Alvernia's Logan vande Meerakker leveled the game once again with just under eight minutes left in the game thanks to assists from Dean Noonan and Jake Sutton.
  • Arcadia found the game winner just over a minute later when Feldman recorded his third of the game and secured the 5-4 victory.

  • The loss put an end to Alvernia's three game winning streak and additional three game-win streak within the UCHC.
  • Logan vande Meerakker scored Alvernia's fourth goal and extended his point-streak to six games.
