Golden Wolves Take Down Monarchs, 4-1

Reading, Pa (January 26, 2024) - Alvernia University (11-6-2, 9-5-1) scored four goals in the final two periods en route to the 4-1 victory over King's College (7-11-0, 6-7-0) in a UCHC men's ice hockey matchup Friday night at BodyZone. 

King's held a 1-0 lead after the first period but the Golden Wolves tallied two goals in the second and third periods to secure the 4-1 victory over the Monarchs. 

How it Happened
  • The Monarchs struck first with seven minutes left in the first period with one second on the power play when Alexander Lee found the back of the net thanks to assists from Kent Lee and Aaron Frenkel to give King's a 1-0 advantage going into the first intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves evened the score in the seventh minute of the second period when Hunter Alden and Matthew Davies connected with Gabriel Malek who ripped the puck top shelf to tie the game at one. 
  • Alvernia grabbed the lead just under two minutes later when Sean Kenney scored a wrap around goal to make it a 2-1 contest. Frazer Dodd and Davies tallied assists on the goal and gave the Golden Wolves a 2-1 lead heading into the intermission. 
  • The Golden Wolves made it 3-1 in the first minute and a half into the third period when Jordan Gagnon lit the lamp after assists from Kenney and Andrew Deschenes to give Alvernia a two goal advantage early in the final period. 
  • Alvernia tallied one more in the final 15 seconds of the game when Vincent Servizzi netted an empty net goal after assists from Kenny and Dodd to secure the 4-1 victory over the Monarchs.

  • Kenny led Alvernia with a goal and two assists. 
  • Davies, Dodd and Kenny each finished with two assists.
  • Davies led Alvernia with three blocks and Frazer Dodd led Alvernia with nine faceoff wins.
  • Jackson Fellner made 27 saves in goal to pick up the win.

Of Note
  • Alvernia is now 2-1 against the Monarchs all-time. Alvernia's four goals scored tonight is its most against the Monarchs in their three matchups.
  • This is the third straight game Alvernia has scored four goals, but its first time in those three games coming away with the win. 
  • Alvernia has scored four or more goals in five of the last six games.
