Golden Wolves Run Past Mustangs in Season Opener, 10-3

Reading, Pa (November 1, 2024) - Alvernia University's (1-0) Frazer Dodd netted his first career hat trick to lead the Golden Wolves to a 10-3 victory over SUNY Morrisville (0-1) Friday night in a non-conference men's ice hockey matchup at BodyZone. 

The Golden Wolves put up a five spot in the first quarter to take an early 5-1 lead and then added three more in the second to make it 8-2 with one period to go. Alvernia then recorded two more goals in the final 20 minutes to secure the 10-3 victory over the Mustangs. 

Dodd's hat trick is the 5th in program history and is the first of his career. It is also the second hat trick for the Golden Wolves in a season opener with Matthew Davies recording a hat trick in a 4-3 comeback victory over Rivier to open the season. 

How it Happened
  • Frazer Dodd got things going in the first three minutes of the game thanks to assists from Jack Natyshak and captain Sawyer Senio to give Alvernia an early 1-0 lead. 
  • The Mustangs answered back just under four minutes later when Will Jones assisted Maxim Maziarchuk to make it 1-1. 
  • Alvernia grabbed the lead back in the 10th minute of the game when Nolan Barrett found the back of the net after an assist from Easton Inglis to make it a 2-1 game. 
  • The Golden Wolves then rattled off three more goals in the final ten minutes of the first period to take a 5-1 lead into the first intermission. Isaac Chapman tallied the first of the three thanks to an assist from Edvin Robertsson, Sean Kenny then recorded an unassisted goal and Dodd tallied his second of the period thanks to an assist from Natyshak. 
  • Dodd completed the hat trick in the first five minutes of the second period after Natyshak and Senio assisted him yet again to give the Golden Wolves a five goal, 6-1 lead. Natyshak's assist was his third of the night, all on goals by Dodd and Senio's was his second of the night. 
  • The Mustangs cut the lead to four after Jones scored a power play goal to make it 6-2 Golden Wolves. 
  • Chapman tallied his second goal of the night in the 16th minute of the second period thanks to assists from Vincent Servizzi and Patrick Del Vecchio to push the lead back to five, 7-2. 
  • Avernia netted a short handed goal in the final minute of the second period to take a six goal, 8-2 advantage into the final intermission. Matthew Imbriano got his name on the scoresheet thanks to an assist from Servizzi. 
  • Morrisville netted a powerplay goal in the opening two minutes of the third period when Andrew Manley and Noah Patrick assisted Matt Mueller to make it 8-3. 
  • Robertsson added his name to the scoresheet for the Golden Wolves in the first four minutes of the final period to make it 9-3 Alvernia. Inglis tallied the assist which was his second of the game. 
  • Joey Arnold capped the scoring for the Golden Wolves in the 9th minute of the third period after he netted a power play goal after grabbing a rebound from a Davies shot to secure the 10-3 victory for Alvernia.

  • Dodd's hat trick is the first since Hunter Alden recorded a hat trick against Chatham last season. 
  • Alvernia's ten goals in a game is the most in program history and breaks the previous record of eight in year one of the program against Manhattanville.
