Gaston Takes First at Day One of MAC Championship

Gaston Takes Top Spot in 10,000m

Chester, Pa. (May 2, 2024) - A first place finish from Cera Gaston highlighted Alvernia's first day at the 2024 Outdoor MAC Track and Field Championship, hosted at Widener University.

Gaston took first in the 10,000m with a time of 37:58.92, winning the event by nearly 20 seconds. Isabel Fries also podiumed in the 10,000 with a personal record time of 39:28.04 for a fifth place finish.

The Women's 4x800 relay - made up of Jessie Torres, Rosnelly Sanchez de Aza, Paige Jerrahian, and Caitlin Sternberg - also had a podium finish today, taking sixth with a time of 9:52.50.

Giavanni Gibson is in fourth place through the first four events of the heptathlon with a score of 1,935 points. She had a 3rd place finish in the 200m and a 4th place finish in the 100m hurdles to highlight the first day of action.

Alvernia is back at Widener tomorrow for the second day of the three day championship.
