Golden Wolves Take on ESU Open to Begin 2025-26 Season

East Stroudsburg, Pa. (Nov. 2, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Wrestling opened its 2025-26 season on Sunday at the East Stroudsburg University Open at East Stroudsburg University.

This year's ESU Open featured over 700 wrestlers competing across the women's and men' s fields.

Elizabeth Adebola, Macenzie Hunter, Kathryn Berger, and Sophie Sharp highlighted Alvernia's contingent of ten wrestlers competing on Sunday.

Elizabeth Adebola made her Alvernia debut going 2-2 on the day. Adebola started her day with a 10-0 technical superiority win over Bridgeport's Olivia Hopkins. She then fell by technical superiority to ESU's Madison Westerberg, 13-2. Adebola then rebounded with a 7-3 decision over Delaware State's Haylie Briscoe, but Adebola's day came to an end with a 6-2 loss via decision to Eastern's Olivia Kinder.

Macenzie Hunter started her sophomore season with a fall over Bluefield State's Megan Pendergrass in 1:08. Gannon's Isabella Phillips then picked up a 10-0 technical superiority win over Hunter, but Hunter rebounded with a 22-second pin over Ken's Aylin Callie in the consolation round of 16. But, Hunter's day came to an end with a 8-8 decision against York's Allison Brandt. The bout came down to criteria, and Brandt scored her eight points on higher-point totals to earn the win by criteria.

Kathryn Berger opened her season with a pin over ESU's Paige Ward in 1:20 in the round of 32 at 145 lbs. Berger then moved into the consolation bracket after falling to Frostburg's Amber Hunter-Snyder in the round of 16. Berger's day came to an end with an injury default in the consolation round of 16.

After dropping her first bout of the day, Sophie Sharpe picked up her first collegiate win via a 5-0 decision at 117 lbs over Lincoln Memorial's Leah Andriannae. But, Sharpe's day came to an end after falling to Lehigh's Annika Futch in 1:21.

Full results for Alvernia are below. The Golden Wolves are back in action on Sunday at a tri-match at Arcadia. Alvernia will take on the host Knights and McDaniel College.
