Golden Wolves Compete at NJCU Duals

Jersey City, NJ (Nov. 22, 2025) - Alvernia Women's Wrestling went 1-2 on Saturday at the New Jersey City Quad Match. 

The Golden Wolves fell to Frostburg, 28-20, to open the day, and just narrowly fell to the Gothic Knights in match two, 24-23. Alvernia then closed out the day with a dominant win over Utica University, 49-1.

Round 1: Alvernia vs. Frostburg: 28-20 (Frostburg)
Alvernia took a 5-0 lead early as Perla Matista-Garcia won via forfeit to open the match. The Bobcats then took the 20-5 lead over Alvernia with four straight pins over the Golden Wolves. Frostburg expanded its lead to 28-5 with two technical fall wins.

Alvernai got back on the board with Elizabeth Adeobla downing her opponent via a late pin with 11 seconds to spare. Macenzie Hunter then pinned her opponent in 4:12 to make it a 28-15 match. A win by forfeit for Kayla Maldonado closed things out in the first match, but Frostburg grabbed the 28-20 win. 

Round 2: Alvernia vs. NJCU: 24-23 (NJCU)
The Gothic Knights took an early 5-0 lead with a pin over Alvernia in the 103 pound bout to open the match. But, Alvernia evened it up at 5-5 as Grace Molloy earned a pin in 2:11 at 110 pounds. The Gothic Knights responded and took a 13-5 lead with a pin at the 117 pound bout and a win via decision at 124 pounds. 

Alvernia closed within three, 13-10, as Alana Durham picked up a pin in 3:26 at 131 pounds. After a trading of five points a side through the 145 pound match, ALvernia got within one, 19-18, as Elizabeth Adebola earned a 10-4 decision at 160 pounds. Macenize Hunter then gave Alvernia the 23-19 lead with a pin in 4:37 at 180 pounds. But, the Gothic Knights earned the final five points of the match with a win via fall at 207 pounds for the 24-23 victory.

Round 3: Alvernia vs. Utica: 49-1 (Alvernia)
Alvernia jumped out to a 15-0 lead with wins via forfeit in the first three bouts of the day. The Golden Wolves continued to roll with a pin in a minute flat by Sophie Sharp at 124 pounds and a 33 second pin by Alana Durham at 131 pounds. Ahnika Hoover then joined in and picked up a pin in 1:09 at 138 pounds to give Alvernia the 30-0 lead.

Daisy Rojas picked up at 15-5 technical fall win at 145 pounds to give Alvernia the 34-1 lead, and Alvernia took a 39-1 lead with a win by forfeit for Elizabeth Adebola at 160 pounds.  The Golden Wolves then closed out the match with back-to-back pins in 56 seconds by Macenzie Hunter at 180 pounds and Kayla Maldonado at 207 pounds to secure the 49-1 win.

The Golden Wolves have over a week off for Thanksgiving before returning to action for a dual at Centenary on December 1st.
