Alvernia Drops Spring Break Opener to Wilkes, 5-1

Fort Pierce, FL, (March 1, 2025) - Alvernia University (2-2) fell to Wilkes University (2-2) 5-1, Saturday evening in a non-conference baseball matchup in Fort Pierce, Florida. 

Wilkes grabbed the early lead after two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. The Colonels then tacked on two more in the fifth and one more in the seventh to secure the 5-1 victory. 

How it Happened 
  • Wilkes struck first with a two spot in the bottom of the first after the Golden Wolves caught a Colonel stealing but Wilkes was able to plate a run out of it to take a 1-0 lead. 
  • The Colonels then added another after an RBI single up the middle scored another to make it 2-0. 
  • Alvernia and Wilkes went the next three innings scoreless before the Colonels doubled their lead in the fifth after a Luke Spencer RBI double plated a run. Spencer then was able to score after an Alvernia throwing error to make it 4-0 after five innings of play. 
  • Alvernia's Logan Nelson got the Golden Wolves on the board in the next half inning after he flew out to center but was able to score Quincy Esannason to pull the Golden Wolves within three, 4-1. 
  • Wilkes tacked on one more in the bottom of the seventh after a wild pitch to push it to 5-1. 
  • The Golden Wolves were unable to plate any more runs in the final two innings as the Colonels secured teh 5-1 victory over the Golden Wolves.
