Reading, Pa (March 22, 2025) - Alvernia University (9-9, 0-4) dropped a pair of tight contests to Hood College (10-8, 2-0) Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth softball doubleheader in Angelica Park. 

The Golden Wolves fell to the Blazers 4-1, in the first game of the series and then dropped the second game 2-1, in extra innings.

How it Happened

• Hood got on the board first in the top of the first inning after an RBI groundout pushed the first run of the ballgame across and gave Hood the early 1-0 lead. 
• The Golden Wolves bounced back immediately with a run in the bottom half of the inning after Brooke Hauck ripped an RBI double into the left center gap that scored Mady Polonsky and tied the game up at one. 
• The Blazers tacked on two more runs in the top of the third inning after an RBI double to left center and a RBI single down the right field line pushed across two more runs and put Hood up 3-1.
• The Golden Wolves and the Blazers then went the next three innings scoreless and tallied just three hits between the two teams before the Blazers added one more insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to secure the 4-1 victory in game one.

How it Happened

• The Blazers struck first again in the top of the first inning with an RBI single up the middle to take another early 1-0 lead. 
• Alvernia and Hood's starting pitchers kept its opposing offenses at bay over the next three innings before the Golden Wolves found a leveler in the fifth inning after she flipped an RBI single to center field that scored Angelina Sponheimer and tied the game up at one. 
• Neither team could push a run across in the final two innings as the game headed to extras locked at one. 
• The Blazers grabbed the lead in the top of the eighth after an RBI single through the right side scored a run and put Hood up 2-1. 
• The Golden Wolves were unable to tie it up in the home half of the eighth as the Blazers secured the 2-1 victory and the series sweep.
