Golden Wolves Take Down Comets, 8-3

Vero Beach, FL (March 5, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-3) tallied five runs in the first four innings en route to an 8-3 victory over Capital University (4-6) Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference baseball matchup in Vero Beach.

How it Happened
  • Alvernia struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning to grab the early lead. Quincy Esannason and Jake Chapman both worked walks to open up the game. Evan Thomas then bunted Esannason and Chapman over into scoring position. Jack Zabarsky then stepped up to the plate and flipped a single through the right side that plated both Chapman and Esannason to give Alvernia a 2-0 lead.
  • The Golden Wolves pushed the lead to four in the top of the fourth after Mike Pulcini singled up the middle and drove in Timmy Hitchcock and Christopher Babkowski to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
  • Pulcini then scored after Esannason was caught stealing but Pulcini was able to score on the throw and push the lead to 5-0.
  • The Golden Wolves and the Comets went scoreless over the next two innings before Capital pulled within two in the bottom of the seventh. The Comets tallied three runs in the seventh after two RBI singles and a wild pitch allowed a run to score and make it a 5-3 ballgame late in the game.
  • Alvernia responded with two runs in the top half of the eighth inning thanks to a Hitchcock sacrifice fly and a Babkowski solo shot extended the Alvernia lead to 7-3 Golden Wolves.
  • The Golden Wolves tacked on one more run in the top of the ninth via a Harold Ivery III sacrifice fly scored Esannason and made it 8-3.
  • Brad Coley came on in relief for the Golden Wolves in the bottom of the ninth and shut down the Comets 1,2,3 to secure the 8-3 victory.
