Golden Wolves Fall to Blue Jays in Extras, 3-2

Fort Pierce, FL (March 6, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-4) could not hold off the comeback from Elizabethtown College (5-2) and fell to the Blue Jays, 3-2, in 11 innings Thursday afternoon in a non-conference baseball matchup in Fort Pierce, FL.

The Golden Wolves held a 2-0 lead after six scoreless innings from starter Chris Sasso but the Blue Jays picked away at the lead and tied the game up in the top of the ninth inning. Elizabethtown then tallied the winning run in the top of the 11th and shut the Golden Wolves down in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves and the Blue Jays both were unable to put any runs across the plate in the first four innings with both teams having runners in scoring position multiple times, both starting pitchers kept the oppositions at bay and the game tied at zero.
  • The Golden Wolves struck first in the bottom half of the fifth inning thanks to a Noah Waldron two RBI single up the middle that scored Gerald DeBalko and Christopher Babkowski to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0 on the Blue Jays.
  • Elizabethtown grabbed one back in the top half of the seventh inning after an infield RBI single plated a run and made it a 2-1 ballgame. Josh Kreider came on in relief for the Golden Wolves and surrendered the one run but got out of a bases loaded jam with a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the Alvernia lead.
  • The Blue Jays leveled the score in the top of the ninth inning after a wild pitch allowed the run to score and tied the game up at two.
  • The Golden Wolves had a chance to plate the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning but were unable to push the run across as the Golden Wolves and the Blue Jays headed to extra innings.
  • The Blue Jays grabbed the lead in the top of the 11th inning after an Alvernia error allowed the Elizabethtown run to score and secure the 3-2 victory.
