Golden Wolves Take Two From Diplomats in Non-Conference Tilt

Lancaster, Pa (April 10, 2025) - Alvernia University (16-14) took down Franklin and Marshall College, 2-0 and 6-5, Thursday evening in a non-conference softball doubleheader at F&M.

The Golden Wolves took game one by a score of 2-0 on the shoulders of Natalie Berwick who tossed a complete game, four hit shutout to power the Golden Wolves to the victory. The shutout was the first of Berwick's career and the complete game was the fifth of her career. Summer Montgomery went 3-4 on the day and scored the second run in the top of the seventh to add some insurance in game one. The Golden Wolves took game two by a score of 6-5 after Brooke Hauck scored on an F&M wild pitch to secure the sweep of the Diplomats. Taylor McClain drove in two runs with an RBI triple and Montgomery, Alexia Fitzgerald and Kalli Bunnell all drove in runs for AU.

How it Happened
  • The Golden Wolves got on the board first in the top of the third inning after back to back doubles by Alexia Fitzgerald and Summer Montgomery put runners on second and third for Alvernia. Brooke Hauck then stepped up and drove a ball to left field that was deep enough to score Fitzgerald and give the Golden Wolves a 1-0 lead.
  • Alvernia and F&M went the next three innings scoreless as both starting pitchers held the oppositions at bay.
  • Alvernia tacked on one final run in the top of the seventh inning to push the lead to two. Montgomery and Hauck recorded back to back singles with two outs in the inning and Montgomery scored via an Diplomats error that allowed the ball to sneak into the outfield and put the Golden Wolves up 2-0.
  • Berwick then shutdown the Diplomats one, two, three in the home half of the seventh to secure the complete game shutout.

  • The Diplomats tied the game up in the home half of the fifth after an RBI single and an RBI groundout plated two runs and made it a 4-4 ballgame.
