Golden Wolves Complete Easter Saturday Sweep of Lions

Reading, Pa (April 19, 2025) - Alvernia University (19-15, 5-7) recorded two wins over Albright College (3-25, 0-12) Saturday afternoon in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader in Angelica Park. 

The Golden Wolves recorded a 5-0 victory in game one behind a two hit shutout by Natalie Berwick. Brooke Hauck drove in three runs in game one with a double and a triple to lead Alvernia. The Golden Wolves then posted a 5-2 win in game two of the doubleheader behind another strong pitching performance, this one from Ashlyn Hillanbrand who tossed seven innings, allowed just two runs and scattered four hits to shut down the Lions.

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves and the Lions went the first three innings of the game scoreless before the Golden Wolves broke open the game with a four run fourth inning. Summer Montgomery broke things open with a bases loaded, two RBI single to make it a 2-0 Alvernia lead. Brooke Hauck followed Montgomery with a two RBI double into the left center gap and put the Golden Wolves up 4-0. All four of the runs the Golden Wolves scored in the inning came with two outs. 
  • Alvernia tacked on one more insurance run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a Hauck sacrifice fly that scored Payton Splain to make it a 5-0 ballgame. 
  • Alvernia's starting pitcher Natalie Berwick sealed her shutout victory with a 1,2,3 top of the seventh to secure the 5-0 victory in game one.

How it Happened 
  • The Golden Wolves took another early lead in game two with a three run second inning after back to back to back RBI doubles. Angelina Sponheimer started things off with a double to left center to get in scoring position. Mady Polonsky doubled to score Sponhiemer, Meryn Bellacima doubled to score Polonsky and Payton Splain capped things off with a double to left center to take a 3-0 lead. 
  • Alvernia tacked on two more in the bottom of the third inning when Sponheimer singled to center that scored Brooke Hauck. Sponheimer then came around to score off a Bellacima RBI single to put the Golden Wolves up 5-0. 
  • Albright grabbed one back in the top of the sixth with an RBI double to right center to make it a 5-1 game. 
  • Albright added one more in the top of the seventh inning after an RBI groundout pushed across a run but Ashlyn Hillanbrand got a flyout to Hauck in center field to secure the 5-2 victory in game two and the series sweep of the Lions.
