Reading, Pa (April 23, 2025) - Alvernia University (21-15) grabbed two non-conference wins over Elizabethtown College (9-23) Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference softball doubleheader down in Angelica Park.
The Golden Wolves took game one by a score of 5-3 and came from behind to score three runs in their final two at bats to secure the victory. Alvernia then took game two in come behind fashion again and scored runs in the first four innings of the game to secure the 5-4 victory. Ashlyn Hillanbrand allowed four runs in the second inning but only one of them were earned and turned around and shut down the Blue Jays in the final five innings and allowed just one hit throughout those innings to secure the victory for Alvernia.

How it Happened
- The Blue Jays got on the board first with an RBI single to center in the top of the first inning to put Elizabethtown up 1-0.
- The Golden Wolves responded in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Alexia Fitzgerald singled up the middle to lead off the inning and then stole second. Summer Montgomery then drove in Fitzgerald with an RBI single up the middle to level it at one.
- Alvernia then grabbed the lead after the loaded the bases and Meryn Bellacima ripped a ground ball at the shortstop, she flipped the ball to second but Elizabethtown was unable to get Bellacima at first and it allowed Montgomery to score and gave Alvernia the 2-1 advantage.
- Both teams went scoreless in the next three innings before the Blue Jays took a 3-2 lead after an Alvernia error allowed two runs to score to give Elizabethtown the one run lead in the top of the fifth.
- Alvernia evened the game back up at 3-3 in the home half of the fifth with Bellacima scoring Brooke Hauck on a sacrifice fly.
- The Golden Wolves then broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth. Hauck doubled to the left gap to score Fitzgerald and give Alvernia the 4-3 lead. Taylor McClain then drove in an insurance run for Alvernia later in the inning as Hauck scored on a single by McClain through the left side to give the Golden Wolves the 5-3 lead going into the seventh.
- Kelsey Racine did not allow a runner to get into scoring position for the Blue Jays in the seventh as Alvernia secured the 5-3 win.

How it Happened
- The Golden Wolves grabbed the lead first in game two after a two out RBI single to left field by Taylor McClain that scored Alexia Fitzgerald to give the Golden Wolves the early 1-0 lead.
- The Blue Jays responded with four runs in the top of the second inning to grab the 4-1 lead.
- Alvernia bounced back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the deficit to one, 4-3. Alexa Ullrich ripped a double down the left field line and then was moved over to third after a Payton Splain flyout to right field. Ullrich then took advantage of a wild pitch by Elizabethtown and was able to score and make it a 4-2 ballgame. Kalli Bunnell then worked a walk, stole second and scored thanks to a Fitzgerald RBI single up the middle to make it a one run game.
- The Golden Wolves tied it up at four just an inning later after Meryn Bellacima singled down the left field line and scored Brook Hauck to level the game and give the Golden Wolves momentum heading into the back half of the game.
- Alvernia pushed a run across for the fourth straight inning in the bottom of the fourth inning and it proved to be the game winner. With two outs and Fitzgerald on second, Hauck legged out an infield single to the shortstop, Fitzgerald made the turn at third and headed for home and scored to put Alvernia up 5-4.
- Alvernia starting pitcher Ashlyn Hillanbrand shut down the Blue Jays in the final three innings of the game to secure the victory for the Golden Wolves. Hillanbrand sat the Blue Jays down 1,2,3 in the fifth inning, allowed just one hit in her final three innings of work and struckout two of the three batters she faced in the top of the seventh to seal the deal for Alvernia.
