Reading, Pa. (October 12, 2026) - Alvernia University's Sofia Mollura of Field Hockey and Aidan Courtney of Men's Soccer were named Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performances in the field during the week of October 4th - October 11th. This week's Alvernia Athletes of the week are presented by Visions Federal Credit Union.

Mollura, a junior defender, helped lead the Golden Wolves to a 2-0 week in MAC Commonwealth play. In a 2-0 victory over crosstown rival Albright, Mollura assisted Ava Michael on what would prove to be the game winning goal in the victory over the Lions. Mollura also rattled two shots at the Albright cage and sent one on target in the victory and helped lead an Alvernia defense that shut the Lions out and limited them to just three total shots on goal. Mollura then helped lead the Golden Wolves to victory in a 2-1 victory over Hood College on Saturday night after she converted the final penalty shootout opportunity to seal the victory for the Golden Wolves. Mollura also tallied two shots with one on cage and led a defensive unit that held Hood to just two shots on goal.

Courtney, a junior forward, netted two goals and added an assist in a 0-1-1 week for the Golden Wolves. In a 2-2 draw to rivals Albright, Courtney assisted teammate Josh Ertel on the opening goal of the game with about 12 minutes to go in the first half to put Alvernia up 1-0. Courtney then pulled the Golden Wolves back level with the Lions in the 69th minute when he then found the back of the net thanks to an Ertel assist this time and salvaged the 2-2 draw for the Golden Wolves. In a Saturday setback to Stevenson, Courtney scored Alvernia's second goal of the game on a beautiful long range strike. Courtney picked up the loose ball around midfield, he then drove into the Stevenson defensive half and from just inside 30 yards out he ripped a shot with his right foot and curled it just inside the left post and into the back of the goal.

Alvernia Field Hockey is back in action this week when they travel to Messiah to take on the Messiah University in a MAC Commonwealth clash in Grantham, Pa. Men's Soccer has a quick turnaround and is back at it tomorrow, 10/13, when they travel to Widener to take on the Pride at 7:00 PM.
