MORAVIAN, ALVERNIA PLAY TO 2-2 TIE

             BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men’s soccer team came from behind to tie the match in the 87th minute and force overtime in a 2-2, double-overtime tie with Alvernia College in non-conference action on the HUB Quad Tuesday afternoon.

            Moravian had taken a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when junior forward Brian Tarulli (Bear Creek, PA/James Coughlin HS) found the back of the net for his third goal of the season off a loose ball following a centering pass by freshman forward Louis Dollarton (Barrington, NJ/Haddon Heights HS).

            Alvernia would tie the match in the 62nd minute on an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder #Ryan Rutherford# (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood HS) off a loose ball before taking the lead in the 79th minute when junior midfielder/defender #Mike Allegra# (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan HS) ended up with a Rutherford shot at his feet.

            The Greyhounds tied the match with 3:42 left in regulation when sophomore forward Chris Dello Buono (Oakland, NJ/Immaculata HS) headed in a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Kevin McGrorry (Avon, NJ/Red Bank Catholic HS) for his third tally of the season.

            Both teams had chances in overtime and several goals were negated during the match by offside calls for both schools. Alvernia had a 23-11 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

            Moravian senior goalie Ian Andrew Nuno (Middletown, DE/Caravel Academy HS), making his first start of the season, had eight saves in the match while Crusader freshman keeper Richard Kessler (Reading, PA/Reading HS) had three saves.

            The Greyhounds are slated to return to action on Saturday, October 8th when they host Elizabethtown College in a Commonwealth Conference match beginning at 3:30 p.m.
