Reading, PA (Sept. 16, 2005) – Junior forward Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored three of Alvernia’s nine first half goals as the Crusaders beat Rosemont College, 10-0, Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Alvernia.
Macchione tallied the first two goals of the day in the opening 5:20, and following goals from Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) and Amber Landis (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata), Macchione redirected a shot from sophomore Lynsey Treadwell (Farmingdale, NJ/Howell) for her third goal of the day and seventh of the season.
The Crusaders tacked on four more unassisted goals in the first half to take a 9-0 advantage at the break. Junior back Melissa Senick (Reading, PA/Central Catholic) scored the only goal of the second half, unassisted in the 59th minute. Alvernia outshot Rosemont 49-0 with 32 shots coming in the opening frame. All three Alvernia goalies split time in net and did not record a save in the shutout.
Alvernia will turn right around and host Marywood University Saturday afternoon in a PAC match-up.
