BOX SCORE

Aston, Pa. (Oct. 31, 2006) – Third-seeded Neumann College earned wins in games three and four to break a 1-1 tie and take a 3-1 win over #6 Alvernia College Tuesday night in a Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s volleyball championship quarterfinal at Bruder Gymnasium.  Alvernia junior Amy Sikorski (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights) paced the Crusaders (8-11) with 13 kills.

Neumann came out strong in the opening game, and thanks to 11 errors by the Crusaders, needed just 14 kills to earn a 30-12 win.  Alvernia leveled the match with a 30-28 win in game two.  The Crusaders managed only 10 kills in the second game and despite the hosts best hitting effort of the night, 22 kills and a .370 percentage, still evened the match at one game apiece.

Neumann rolled to a fairly convincing 30-20 win in game three and closed out the match with a 30-18 win in game four.  The Knights will travel to #2 Gwynedd-Mercy on Thursday evening for a semifinal match up with the Griffins.

Alvernia sophomore Jenn Stigura (Barto, PA/Central Catholic) reached double figures in kills with 10.  Sophomore setter Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame) finished with 22 assists.  Four different Crusaders finished the night with a dozen digs while Stigura posted a team-high 15.
