Carroll Scores Three As Alvernia Tops Wesley 10-3

Carroll Goes 4-for-5 With A Home Run

Dover, DE (April 7, 2006) – Sophomore centerfielder Tim Carroll (Bensalem, PA/Conwell-Egan) scored three runs on four hits and notched his second home run of the season as Alvernia College defeated Wesley College 10-3 Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference baseball action at Wesley.

            Tim Frisch (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) threw seven strong innings giving up one run on four hits and striking out eight to pick up the win.  Wesley committed five of its seven errors in the seventh inning as the Crusaders blew open a 4-1 game sending 11 men to the plate and scoring six times on four hits.

            Alvernia opened the scoring with a single run in the second inning.  Senior catcher Dan Myers (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal) smacked a two out double to rightfield and scored on a single off the bat of Edwin Tavarez (Reading, PA/Reading).

            The Crusaders tacked on two more runs in the third on back-to-back RBI hits from Jason Zeigler (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) and Chris Raniere (Manalapan, NJ/St. John Vianney).

            Wesley got on the board in the third on a walk, two singles, and a sacrifice fly.  Frisch allowed one baserunner in the first and just four more after the third before leaving with a comfortable lead in the eighth.

            Alvernia opened its six-run seventh reaching on back-to-back errors before Zeigler’s bases-loaded single plated a run.  Raniere popped out and Steve Burdan’s (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) groundout forced home another run.  A walk and an error ensued before singles from Tavarez and Carroll put the guests up 10-1.

            Wesley plated two runs in the home half of the ninth loading the bases with one out before Pete Fernandez (Bogota, NJ/Bogota) closed the door with a fly ball to right and a groundout.

            Wesley will make the trip north to Reading tomorrow to complete the 3-game series.  Tomorrow’s games will be played at Governor Mifflin starting at 3:00 p.m.
