Three Crusaders Tally First Career Goal

Rosemont, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2006) – Four different starters scored a total of five goals for Alvernia College, and a trio of reserves each tallied their first career goal led by Amanda Daher (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville) who scored twice as the Crusaders (4-1, 2-0 PAC) rolled past Rosemont 9-0 Monday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference field hockey action at Rosemont.

            Senior forward Megan Novogratz (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) ran her points streak to 10 straight games scoring her fifth goal of the season at 1:26 of the first assisted by junior Amber Landis (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata).  Jessie Titus (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) scored 32 seconds later assisted by senior Becky Macchione (Richland, PA/Conrad Weiser), and Macchione made it 3-0 with a goal in the fifth minute.  The Crusaders improved to 30-4 over the past three-plus years in games that Macchione and Novogratz, the top two career goal scorers, score at least one goal each.

            Titus scored unassisted in the 13th minutes for a 4-0 lead and Daher followed with the first goal of her career in the 18th minute.  Freshman Allison Sterner (Reading, PA/Holy Name) scored seven minutes later for the first time in her career and Janelle Lynch (Macungie, PA/Brandywine Heights) was the third straight to record her first in the 34th minute.  Following Lynch’s goal, Alvernia took a 7-0 lead into the break.

            Daher tallied her second goal in the 55th minute assisted by Jackie Guignet (Center Valley, PA/Southern Lehigh), and junior Shayna Clark (Leesport, PA/Schuylkill Valley) finished the scoring unassisted in the 68th minute.  Sophomores Audrey Hoffman (Mertztown, PA/Brandywine Heights) and Amanda Yocum (Morgantown, PA/Twin Valley) each played 35 minutes and did not record a save as the Crusaders outshot Rosemont 43-0 in the game.  Rosemont keeper Kelly Cione made 17 saves for the Ramblers (0-3, 0-3 PAC).

            Alvernia will continue the PAC schedule on Thursday with a trip to Marywood University.
