Matt King (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Pius X) knocked down a 3 with 5:15 to play to give Alvernia College a 12-point lead, but Point Park closed the game with a 25-7 run to steal a 91-83 win Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the 10th annual Tom Masano/Sheraton Reading Tip-Off Tournament at the Physical Education Center.
King was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 20.5 points and 8.0 rebounds over two games. Point Park senior Chivas Whipple represented the Pioneers on the All-Tournament Team.
Point Park held an eight point lead at one point in the first half, but the host Crusaders were able to close with a 21-8 run to lead by five at the break, 43-38.
Alvernia pushed the second half lead to 11 points early, 56-45, but the Pioneers trimmed it down to two with a 13-4 run.
David Washington (Durham, N.C./Northern Durham) knocked down a 3 to stop that run and four minutes later King's 3 gave Alvernia its largest lead of the night.
Alvernia will travel to Penn State Berks for a non-conference match-up on Nov. 26.
