Reading, PA (November 17, 2007) - The Royals from Scranton University trailed by 14 on two different occiasions, but battled back to win the 10th Annual Tom Masano/Sheraton Reading Tournament hosted by Alvernia College on Saturday afternoon 80-73 over Walsh University. Walsh had defeated Point Park University on Friday evening 110-83.
The Cavaliers built a convincing 28-14 lead with only seven minutes remaining in the first half thanks to their first half shooting percentage of 53.6%. The Royals would bring the score withing nine heading into halftime.
Walsh University saw their comfortable lead slowly diminish as the second half wore on and Scranton finally took the lead when Ryan Fitzpatrick drove the lane for a lay-up to put the Royals up by one (52-51) with 11:15 to play in the second half.
It was back and forth before the royals began to pull away behind a 12-4 run that put them up 72-64 with 4:44 to play. Walsh battled back to get withing one of Scranton before Tom Bicknell connected on a lay-up to increase the cushion.
Tom Bicknell netted a game-high 21 points and was named the Tournament MVP. Fellow senior Randy Arnold was named to the All-Tournament team after tallying 13 points and six assists in the final.
