Ithaca, NY (January 10, 2007) - Alvernia College was defeated by Division One Cornell University 91-46 this evening in Ithaca, New York. The Crusaders were led by junior
Terrence Shawell (Pottstown, PA/Pottstown) who was the only Crusader in double digits with 11 points. With the loss Alvernia falls to 4-6, while the Big Red improve to 7-5.
The Big Red from Cornell struck first going up 5-0 in the opening minutes of the game before Alvernia quickly evened the score at five less than five minutes into the game. Scoring continued back and forth for the next five minutes and the Crusaders managed to stay close with the score tied at 11 at 11:47 before Cornell pulled away. Alvernia saw the tight game slip away and entered the half with a considerable 44-22 deficit to overcome.
The second half proved to be more of the same as the Big Red burst out to a 21-8 run to open the second half. Cornell was led by Louis Dale who put up 13 points and pulled down four rebounds. Cornell outshoot Alvernia hitting 56% of their shots to Alvernia's 34%. The Crusaders were also outrebounded 40-22.
The Crusaders will return to action this Saturday at home in a non-conference match-up against Elizabethtown University at 3:00 p.m.
