Tyrone Bradley (Chester, Pa./Chester) pulled a game-high 15 boards to lead Alvernia College to a 62-56 win over Williamson Free Trades School Wednesday evening in game one action of the Sponaugle Men's Basketball Invitational hosted by Franklin & Marshall College.
Alvernia will face host Diplomats in the tournament final on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at the Mayser Center. Williamson will face Southern Virginia in the consolation game.
Bradley scored to tie the game at 2-2 in the early going and after a 3-point play from sophomore guard
Zach Westmoreland (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) the Crusaders (4-4) never trailed.
The first half lead grew to as many as eight points following another Bradley bucket at 8:39 and Alvernia took a slim 32-31 lead into the break.
Williamson tied the score twice midway through the second half, and following a 3-point bucket from Jose Soto with 35 seconds left, was within two at 58-56. The Crusaders missed a pair from the line on the next possession, but Davar Watson, who finished with 30 points and 14 rebounds, missed a jumper that would have tied the score and Alvernia hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds for the 6-point final.
