Alvernia Drops Rubber Match At Lynchburg

Carroll Leads Crusaders With A Pair Of Hits

Lynchburg, Va. (Feb. 24, 2008) – Lynchburg College sent 12 batters to the plate and benefited from three Alvernia College errors in a decisive sixth inning Sunday afternoon en route to a 13-6 win in non-conference baseball action at Fox Field.

Alvernia scored two runs in the top of the sixth to knot the score at 5-5. Lynchburg had a man on with one out in the bottom of the sixth before nine straight batters reached base and the Hornets (5-5) six runs, five unearned, to pull away to an 11-5 lead. They posted one each in the seventh and eighth innings and Alvernia added a run in the ninth for the 13-6 final.

Senior Tim Carroll (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell-Egan) finished the day 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. The Crusaders (1-2) finished with 10 hits, but made four errors in the rubber match with the Hornets.

Alvernia will hit the gym for a week of practice before heading to Florida for Spring Break the first week of March.
