Ft. Pierce, Fla. (Mar. 7, 2008) – Sophomore pitcher Brian Longo (Uncasville, Conn./Montville) earned a win in 3.2 innings of relief and freshman starter Jeremy Hausdorf (Floral Park, N.Y./St. Mary's) went 4.0 innings for the win in game two as Alvernia College swept a doubleheader from Northwestern College (Minn.), 12-7 and 9-5, Friday evening to wrap up its Spring Break trip with an 8-1 record.

The Crusaders (9-3) have won six straight with a mix of both pitching and hitting. Four players collected multiple hits in a 12-7 win behind Longo in the opener led by senior catcher James Geosits (Wyomissing, Pa./Wilson) who went 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Senior outfielder Tim Carroll (Bensalem, Pa./Conwell Egan) was 3-for-5, also with two runs and two RBIs. Freshmen Chris Stoudt (West Lawn, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Bruce Williams (Havertown, Pa./Havertown) both picked up two hits in the opener.

Alvernia pounded Northwestern's starter with six runs in the first inning. Carroll, freshman Tim Ahlquist (Millville, N.J./Millville), Stoudt, Geosits, and Dale Curry (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) all reached as the Crusaders opened the game with five straight singles. Senior left fielder Steve Burdan (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown), the nations leader in doubles per game last season, ripped a two-run double to left center, and Williams and Carroll added run scoring singles before the inning ended.

Northwestern came back with a run in the home half of the first and four more in the second off Alvernia starter Zach Grey (York, Pa./York Catholic) who gave up five runs in 1.1 innings. Longo came in with the bases loaded and one out, and worked out of the inning allowing just one inherited runner to score.

The Crusaders posted two-run innings in the fourth, sixth, and seventh to secure the win. Williams singled and scored on a Carroll triple in the fourth, and Geosits and Curry both knocked in a run each in the sixth.

Hausdorft fell behind 3-0 in game two with Northwestern plating two in the first and one in the second. Geosits and Curry both doubled to lead off the bottom of the second, and the Crusaders threatened for more with the bases loaded and just one out, but back-to-back strikeouts left them down a run through two innings.

Curry, Burdan, and freshman Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) hit consecutive two-out singles in the third to tie the game at 3-3, and the offense ripped three doubles in the fourth for a 6-5 lead. Curry's triple in the sixth was the second of three straight RBI hits as the Crusaders pulled ahead 9-5. Senior hurler Steve Geisel (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) threw two innings of shutout relief striking out five of the seven batters he faced.

Alvernia will pick up the northern portion of the schedule with a Monday trip to Rowan University for a 3:00 p.m. game.
