Crusaders Drop Their Second Game Of The Season 22-4

BOX SCORE

Sat. March 15, 2008 (Swarthmore, PA) - The Crusader Women's Lacrosse team fell to Haverford (3-1) at the Swarthmore Tournament this afternoon by a score of 22-4.   Senior McKenna Shafer (Delran, NJ/Cinnaminson) was Alvernia's lone bright spot of the day as she scored all four goals.

The Crusaders (0-2) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game when Shafer scored an unassisted goal at 28:04 to give Alvernia their only lead of the game.  Their lead didn't last long as Maggie Matthews scored 11 seconds later for Haverford to even the score at on apiece.  Haverford added three more goals before Shafer struck again at 22:01 for her second goal of the game.  This would be the last time the Crusaders hit the back of the net until the second half.  Haverford out shot Alvernia 25-5 in the first half and fired off 12 unanswered goals to finish off the half.

Shafer netted her third goal of the game to open the second half scoring at 22:39, but her goal was followed by six from Haverford before she would add her fourth of the game with seven seconds remaining.  The Crusader defense played a much tighter half allowing only nine Haverford shots and the offense fired off seven of their own.

Alvernia will finish the Swarthmore Tournament with a game against Bryn Mawr tomorrow afternoon at 12:00 pm.
