Michele Kassab (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) earned a walk in the fourth inning. With the loss, Alvernia falls to 0-1 on their young season.
Alvernia escaped the first inning unscathed after starter
Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) struck out Bekah Bennett with runners on the corners. Susquehanna put up a four-spot in the second inning behind four hits including back-to-back lead-off doubles and three walks. They tacked on two more in the third and three in the fifth to secure the 9-0 mercy-rule victory.
Susquehanna starter Cara Swerdlow held the Crusader bats at bay striking out 13 in five innings of work and allowing only one walk.
The Crusaders will take on Thiel College in a Monday morning doubleheader beginning at 9:00 am.
