Doubles Sweep Leads Alvernia Past GMC

Lockwood/Snyder Need Tiebreak At No. 1 Doubles

Lower Gwynedd, Pa. (Mar. 29, 2008) – Alvernia College swept the doubles matches for a 3-0 lead and pulled away for a 7-2 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference men's tennis action at Gwynedd-Mercy.

Alvernia sophomore Zach Lockwood (Reading, Pa./Conrad Weiser) teamed with senior Phil Snyder (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) for a 9-8 (11-9) win at No. 1 doubles to finish off the sweep and Lockwood followed with a 0-6, 6-4, 10-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

Kyle Levengood (Fleetwood, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and David Schaeffer (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) won 8-3 at No. 2 doubles and the two won at No. 4 and No. 3 singles respectively. Ryan Lineaweaver (Robesonia, Pa./ELCO) and Eric Snyder (Easton, Pa./Notre Dame) won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles and Snyder earned Alvernia's final point with a win at No. 6 singles.

Alvernia will travel to Marywood University on Monday for a conference match with the Pacers.
