Saturday April 19, 2008 (Radnor, PA) – Alvernia improved to 26-9 (12-4 PAC) with a sweep at Cabrini College this afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference action.  With the sweep the Crusaders set a new team record for wins in a season with 26 surpassing the previous record of 24.  Alvernia's bats rebounded from a slow day yesterday and connected for 15 hits in game one for the 8-0 win and 12 hits in the second game for the 9-1 win.

In game one freshman Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) drilled the first pitch of the game over the right field fence to give Alvernia the early lead.  They added two more runs later in the inning thanks to a two-out RBI-single from Shannon Higgins (Blue Bell, PA/Wissahickan) and a passed ball.  Higgins connected again in the third inning with a double to score Alvernia's fourth run of the day.

Starting pitcher Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) continued to hold Cabrini scoreless and Alvernia added another run in the fifth, one more in the sixth and two more in the seventh for the 8-0 victory.

Senior Jackie Rhoads (Dillsburg, PA/Northern York) was 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and three runs scored, Michele Kassab (Pompton Lakes, NJ/Pompton Lakes) was 3-for-4 and had two RBIs and two runs scored.

The second game saw Alvernia jump ahead again in the top of the first inning when Emily Williams (Minersville, PA/Nativity) knocked in Rhoads with a double down the third baseline.  Sorrentino connected for an RBI-double in the second inning to give the Crusaders the 2-0 lead and one more would score on a passed ball.

Alvernia continued their steady attack adding two runs in the third and one in the fourth inning.  Cabrini pushed across their lone run of the day in the third inning thanks to an RBI-triple from lead-off batter Brittany Caprice.

Sorrentino brought two more around to score on an RBI-triple down the right field line to give Alvernia the 8-1 lead.  Kassab drilled a homerun over the left field fence to give the Crusaders the 9-1 lead to end the game after six innings.
