March 24, 2009 (Collegeville, Pa.) – The Alvernia University Crusaders were swept in non-conference action this afternoon at Ursinus College to fall to 7-7 on the season. Despite giving up just two earned runs over both games Alvernia was defeated 3-0 in the first game and 1-0 in game two. Michelle Jensen (New Holland, Pa. /Delaware Valley) took the loss in the first game giving up just five hits and one earned run over seven innings. Freshman pitcher Jocelyn Blum (Pottsville, Pa. /Pottsville Area) threw a gem of her own allowing only four hits through 4 1/3 innings.

The Crusader's bats fell asleep in game one, mustering just two hits all game. Freshman Jacklyn Torres (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) ripped a single through the left side in the first inning and fellow freshman Angela Cook (Palmerton, PA/Palmerton) connected for one of her own in the sixth inning.

The Bears from Ursinus took advantage of an untimely Crusader defensive miscue to score their first run of the game and would quickly add another in the bottom of the second inning off another Alvernia error. They tagged on an insurance run in the sixth inning after they strung together three singles.

In the second game of the day Alvernia cleaned up their defensive woes, but their bats continued to struggle, this time managing just six hits over seven innings. The Bears would score their lone run of the game after a lead-off single and a passed ball put a runner on second in the bottom of the third inning. Kate Kehoe followed with what proved to be the game-winning hit with a double to the left-field fence.

Freshman right-fielder Cook highlighted the Crusader's day at the plate with a 3-for-5 performance. Chelsea Millar (Media, Pa./Penncrest) added in a 1-for-3 performance of her own in game two.

Alvernia will return to action with a non-conference double header against PSU-Harrisburg which will be held at PSU-Berks Thursday March 26th at 3:00 pm.
