GAME TWO BOX SCORE

Elizabethtown, Pa. (March 30, 2009) - The Crusaders (8-11) suffered a sweep at the hands of Elizabethtown College (5-17) in non-conference action this afternoon at Elizabethtown.  Alvernia managed just five hits in the opener to eventually fall 6-1 and despite a valiant come back in the second half they would fall 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) took the loss in the first game after scattering seven hits and six runs over seven innings of work with the decisive blow coming off the bat of Paige Tanner in the form of a grand slam in the third inning.  The Crusaders pushed across their lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning when Samantha Geisinger (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) lead off the inning with a single and would come around to score after a wild pitch, another single and an error.

Alvernia seemed poised to repeat themselves in the second game of the double-header as only two batters reached base through the first four innings and the Blue Jays put up two runs in the first and the third and another in the fifth for the 5-0 lead.  The Crusaders finally connected for some offense in their half of the sixth inning when Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame) lined a two-strike pitch to left center field for a single and Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) followed with a walk.  Dina Chiappelli (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) kept the rally going with a single of her own to socre Crimi.  Freshman Jacklyn Torres (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) the stepped to the plate and hit a frozen rope over the left field fence for a three-run home run to bring Alvernia within one run.

The Crusaders would tie the game in the top of the seventh after Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) led off with a single and a stolen base and came around to score on a double from Crimi.  The tie was short-lived as the Blue Jays pushed across the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Crimi was 4-for-6 on the day with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

The Crusaders will return to action Wednesday afternoon as they host Manhattanville at 3:00 pm in Freedom Conference action at PSU-Berks.
