Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame) knocked in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a two-out double to the fence as Alvernia (14-19, 3-11 Freedom) took game two for the split against Eastern (12-18, 6-10 Freedom) in Freedom Conference action this afternoon at Anglica Park. Sophomore hurler
Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) threw all 14 innings for the Crusaders, allowing just four earned runs and striking out 13 batters.
In the first game of the day Eastern took advantage of three Alvernia errors in the top of the third inning to take the 3-0 lead. The Crusaders would answer with one of their own in the bottom of the third as Jensen knocked in
Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) who had reached with a single a quickly stole her 23rd base of the season. Alvernia brought the game within one run with another run in the fourth inning thanks to an Eagle error, but it would not be enough as Eastern added another run in the fifth and seventh innings for the 5-2 win.
The second game of the day saw Eastern jump ahead 1-0 in the first inning after yet another three-error inning by Alvernia. This time they would answer with two runs in their half of the first inning for the 2-1 lead. After an error allowed the first Crusader run,
Samantha Geisinger (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) would connect for a single up the middle for the go-ahead run.
The Eagles would tie the game at two in the fourth inning after a lead of double was followed by a sacrifice bunt and a sacrifice fly. The Crusaders would answer again to take the 3-2 lead when
Chelsea Millar (Media, Pa./Penncrest) ripped a triple and would score on an Eastern error. The back-and-forth action continued with Eastern tying the game at three in the top of the sixth inning after a walk and two singles.
Jensen would shut down the Eagle offense in the seventh inning and Alvernia would answer. Lynch lead off the inning with an infield single and was bunted to second by Jensen. After a ground-out, senior Crimi would step up and rip the 1-1 pitch over the left fielder's head for a double to plate Lynch for the 4-3 win.
Alvernia will wrap-up their season with a home Freedom Conference game this Saturday against Wilked University at home beginning at 1:00pm.
