Reading, Pa. (April 8, 2009) - The Crusader Softball team (11-14) swept visiting Albright College (3-25) this afternoon at Angelica Park in non-conference action. Sophomore
Michelle Jensen (Holland, NJ/Delaware Valley) earned the complete game, shut-out win in game one and
Lauren Crimi (Nazareth, Pa./Notre Dame) went the distance in the second game for her fourth win of the season.
In the first game of the afternoon Alvernia got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when
Janelle Lynch (Macungie, Pa./Brandywine) reached on an error and would come around to score on a triple from
Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall). Sorrentino would score the second run of the inning on another Albright error.
The Crusaders would go on to add six more unearned runs in the fifth inning to end the game due to the 8-0 mercy rule.
Brooke Hess (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) led off the fifth with a single, and after an error and a bunt single from
Amy Mesce (Pittstown, NJ/Delaware Valley) Lynch would follow with a single to score Hess. Two more runs would score as Crimi drove the ball through the first basemen, and
Samantha Geisinger (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) would add two more with a double to the fence. Geisinger would come around to score, and end the game on another double, this time from
Angela Cook (Palmerton, Pa./Palmerton).
The second game of the day saw Alvernia jump on the board with two runs in the top of the first inning after Crimi connected for a one-out triple and came around to score on an error. After Sorrentino scored, Geisinger, who reached with a fielder's choice scored the third run of the inning thanks to a single from
Dina Chiappelli (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippenburg). The Crusaders would give up two runs in the top of the second, but quickly added two more of their own in the bottom of the inning on a two-RBI single from Crimi.
Alvernia would get three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before giving up two to Albright in the fifth inning. The Crusaders would hold on for the 8-4 win.
Crimi not only earned the win in the second game, but she was 3-for-5 on the day with three runs scored and five RBIs. Sorrentino was 4-for-7 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Lynch was 3-for-7 with an RBI and four runs scored.
Alvernia will return to action tomorrow afternoon at 3:00pm for a Freedom Conference doubleheader and Delaware-Valley University.
