Crusaders Fall To Washington In Stevens' Opener

Young And Altemose Score 15 Each

BOX SCORE

Hoboken, N.J. (Nov. 20, 2010) - Alvernia Universty (1-1) fell behind by 14 points at halftime and couldn't recover in a 73-58 loss to Washington College at the Stevens Institute Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Crusaders got a team-high 15 points from junior Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM) and Brittany Young (Columbus, N.J./North Burlington), while the Shorewomen put four players in double figures led by 17 from Sally O'Donnell.

Alvernia actually came out with some punch taking a 9-4 lead by four points from Altemose and five from freshman Shanaye Glenn (Coatesville, Pa./The HIll School), but the early spurt was the best as Altemose only added 11 more and Glenn finished 4-for-17 from the floor for 11 total.

The Shorewomen fought back to knot the score at 11-all, then ran off a 21-7 run that put them up 14 points, 36-22 with 2:31 left in the first half.  Alvernia trimmed that lead back down to 10, but four straight from Washington to close the half made the halftime score 40-26.

Washington built its second half lead to 20 points twice and kept it in double figures the rest of the way.

Alvernia will face off with former conference foe FDU-Florham in Sunday's consolation game at 2:00 p.m.  Stevens defeated FDU 79-51 in other action Saturday.
