Glassboro, N.J. (Nov. 29, 2010) - Junior
Allie Toczylowski (Mantua, N.J./Clearnview Regional) scored the first two and the last three points of a decisive 15-1 second half run that put Alvernia University (2-3) ahead to stay in a 71-60 win over Rowan University (2-3) Monday evening in non-conference women's basketball action at Rowan.
Toczylowski finished with 22 points and 12 rebounds to pace the Crusaders who also got 20 points and 13 boards from
Angela Altemose (Pottsville, Pa./Nativity BVM).
Alvernia built a three-point advantage, 30-27 at the halftime break and pushed that lead to five points early in the second half before the host Profs surged to a 42-38 lead with 14:34 to play.
Toczylowski scored on a layup assisted by Altemose on the next possession and Shaneye Glenn (Coatesville, Pa./The Hill School) tied the score with a pair of free throws. Rowan scored its only point during the run on a free throw after Glenn had tied the score, but Alvernia answered with 11 straight points to take the 53-43 lead.
Glenn scored another two during that run and
Brittany Young (Columbus, N.J./North Burlington) scored four straight -- she finished as the third Crusader in double figures with 10. Then Toczylowski closed the run with a free throw and a layup for the 10-point lead.
The Crusaders' second half lead fell to as little as five points and grew to as many as 11, the final spread.
Alvernia snapped a three-game losing skid with the win and will start the conference schedule at crosstown rival Albright on Wednesday.
