Westminster, Md. (Dec. 19, 2010)
- Junior Cory Boone (Howard, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) put up his fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and ten rebounds as Alvernia defeated host McDaniel College 73-66 Sunday in non-conference action.  Fellow junior Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) posted a double-double of his own with 12 points and ten rebounds.

After a scoreless 3:42 to start the game, Charles Swigget (Chester, Pa./Chester) connected for three of his 18 points to get the Crusaders on the board, and followed that up with a free throw to give Alvernia the early 4-0 lead.  After four from the Green Terror, Boone netted a lay-up to ignite Alvernia on a 12-4 run, giving them a healthy 16-8 lead with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.

McDaniel put up another four points, but Alvernia answered promptly with three-pointers from Swigget and Seth Cornell (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor) to give Alvernia a ten-point lead.  However, the Crusaders soon witnessed their lead shrink as host McDaniel went on a 8-0 run to close out the first half and leave Alvernia up just 29-26.

The second half opened with more action from the Green Flash as a quick jumper gave McDaniel the 10-0 run, before Boone answered with a lay-up to stop the bleeding.  After some back-and-forth action Swigget hit another three-pointer to spark an 11-2 run from the Crusaders that they would roll into a 63-47 lead.  Eight free throws from Alvernia put the game out of reach for the Red Flash.

The Crusaders will now prepare for their road trip to Phoenix, AZ where they will face Husson College on Dec. 29th and Centenary College on Dec. 30th.
