Tuscon, Ari. (Mar. 4, 2010) - Alvernia University (2-4) fell victim to a pair of big innings Thursday afternoon in a 9-1 loss to Neumann University (2-6) and a 14-0 loss to St. John Fisher (6-3) at the Tuscon Invitational Games.

Junior infielder Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) doubled and scored in the first inning to put the Crusaders up 1-0.

Neumann answered with seven runs in the third inning on six hits and one Alvernia error.  The Knights added an eighth run in the fourth and ended the game by the eight-run rule with a run in the ninth.

Sorrentino was 2-for-3 in game one and Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) was 2-for-2.  Freshman starter Deanna Dungee (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) took the loss for the Crusaders.

St. John Fisher started game two with three runs in the first inning and doubled its lead with a run in the third and two more in the fourth.  The Cardinals ended the game with eight runs in the sixth.

Peto was 2-for-2 at the plate for the second straight game.  Sam Geisinger (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) went 2-for-3.  Michelle Jensen (Holland, N.J./Delaware Valley) surrendered four runs, three earned, in three innings in the loss.

Alvernia returns home from the Spring Break trip and will face Immaculata University March 13.
